So it has been a while since my last post and I found myself sitting here and listening to music, asking myself, “Do cats like music?”. As silly as a question as that may seem, I had to research it. The fact is that all living beings, even plants, respond to Hz frequencies. Those are found it all music and sound. This is why some voices are more appealing to you than others, they simply give off a frequency you enjoy. So the question at hand, do cats actually like music? Lets dive into this!!

Music is something that you never hear someone saying they dislike. Sound in of itself will cause any creature to react in a certain way. Strong tones can bring on alertness and fear. Calming tones can cause relaxation and peace. Music is an amazing thing and knowing that your cat may enjoy it will bring you two (or three… four?… SEVEN! You have a lot of cats!) closer together! While not all cats will respond the same way to the same music, we do know they do enjoy it, it is just a matter of finding what they like.

For most adults, they pick up on their favorite music as babies and children. This is often why so many will get the warm and fuzzies listening to music they did as a child or a teen. I, for one, can listen to certain video game music and feel my inner child again. It is amazing! Are cats and other creatures like this? There have been studies done but there are still many doors left open to question this theory for cats.

Many studies HAVE found one thing though! Cats know when a pitch is off! Knowing this, you may question your favorite songs when watching how your cat reacts to it. Many people believe that cats are more drawn to simple music, like Classical and simple piano play. This is because the frequency of this music allows the person (or cat) listening to it, to really feel the music without all the other things like vocals and beat changing to get in the way. It also allows the listener to feel what they want based on their OWN emotions not the ones the song is trying to depict. This is why mind control through music is such a popular tool used against people (and animals). BUT that is completely off topic.

PLEASE do not go blasting music, remember, it does not have to be loud for your cat! They find it more enjoyable at a very peaceful volume. Their hearing is a lot more powerful and sensitive than ours!

The bottom line, after all my rambling, is YES – Cats do enjoy music and much like us, to each their own. See how your cat reacts to this music, I myself, find very calming. ** Added bonus, if you can play something yourself, play for your cat!**
